VfR 06 Neuss opened the 2026/27 season with a 2–1 away victory over SV Rheinwacht Stürzelberg. The first three points represented more than a positive result: they marked an encouraging beginning for a team that has undergone significant change in several areas.
New coach Ryoji Ishikawa placed his trust in several Asian players from the starting whistle. English is currently the main language of communication within the international squad, and despite the number of new faces, the team played with unity, courage and a clear willingness to work for one another.
Determined until the final whistle
VfR also made an early statement with the quality of its football. A dynamic dribble created the deserved opening goal in the first half. Stürzelberg equalised shortly after the restart, but the setback did not unsettle the visitors. Rather than simply protect a point, VfR continued to push forward.
That ambition was rewarded during an intense finish when VfR scored to make it 2–1 and then defended the advantage with concentration until full time. The newly formed side returned to Neuss with all three points and a valuable foundation for the Kreisliga B challenges ahead.
