VfR 06 Neuss travelled to face Polizei SV Neuss on Sunday, 6 September 2026, in the fourth matchday of the Kreisliga B season. Kicking off at 12:30, the fixture was the second of three consecutive away matches during a demanding period for the newly formed team.
Head coach Ryoji Ishikawa continued to place his trust in the international make-up of the squad, selecting nine Asian players in the starting eleven. The match also marked Florian Rath’s first appearance in goal for VfR.
The afternoon began on a difficult note. During the first half, VfR’s centre-forward was forced to leave the field through injury. The team subsequently fell two goals behind following a quick counterattack and a defensive error.
Rath impresses on his debut
After the break, VfR attempted to change the course of the match. Led by the central midfield, the team pushed Polizei SV back for periods of the second half and patiently looked for opportunities to attack. However, the goal needed to reopen the contest did not arrive, and the match ended in a 2–0 defeat—VfR’s third consecutive loss.
Despite the result, Florian Rath produced an impressive performance on his debut. The goalkeeper reacted sharply whenever the home side broke quickly behind the defence and made several strong saves to prevent the deficit from increasing. His performance deserved greater reward, and the team would have liked to find the goals needed to turn his contribution into a positive result.
Following another difficult away fixture, attention now turns to the next challenge. The team will continue working to sustain its promising spells throughout the full match and translate its effort into a much-needed positive result.
